Usability Insights offers a variety of usability techniques depending on the product, access to clients and position in the development life cycle. Any one of these following techniques can help improve the customer experience, but combining two or more, and iterative evaluations over time will give the best results.
Practical/Task-based Usability Evaluation – is the most involved technique and yields the best results on true usability of the product. Practical usability evaluation involves watching real users interact with the product or prototype while performing real tasks.
Best Practice Review – is a simple, easy way to get feedback on navigation, consistency and adherence to good design principles. It involves comparing a site to predetermined Standards and Guidelines.
Cognitive Walkthrough – is effective very early in the design phase to help identify “ease of learning” issues. Employing typical user tasks, a group “walks through” the interaction to understand what the user may experience. This also helps team identify what the user’s tasks actually are.
Field Study – is a technique borrowed from classic anthropology. This involves going out “into the field” and watching people in their natural environment, where they would use the particular product or feature being evaluated, to see what they really do.
Regardless of the technique used, Usability Insights works closely with your Project/Product Managers, Designers and Developers throughout the process to foster a collaborative environment focused on the customer experience.
